Enviroment during exam time

So many people waiting at the bus stop at each college hostel either AB, CD , E or either at Indah Permai. The bus also pack with too many students until at the door step of the bus. There is one time that too many like sardine when the bus break some people fall down.

Students have difficulty especially students who live at Indah Permai college. When time lecture finish or exam finish many people will need to queue for bus to go back IP.

Karnival Sukan Kokum at Dewan Chancellor

This event was held on the 25October 2009 at 8am in the morning to show case the performance of the first semester to thier coach and lecturer what they have learn during the 5months training and practical.
The event draw quite a large crowd for first semester students. Many of the first semester students who join each of the kokum club or uniform body will be performing. This performance will be watch by first semester and other students.

The event starts with the performing of the fire brigade unit from Kota Kinabalu branch. The act will be perform by the first semester students with the help by thier coach. Many watch the situation in front of the Dewan Chancellor.

The most interesting part is watching the Sabahan dance and song played. It was very instrumental and give much meaning to people who admire it. Not only that when students join together to dance the Sabahan dance by the UMS students.

The event end around 2pm in the afternoon.

During the closing ceremony on sunday night on the 11Oct09 of Tamu Gadang concert was available at night only. Famous artis like Aizat and and Nadia. Several song was sang by the two artiste that perform that night.

Tamu Gadang the 11edition was officially launch by the TYT Sabah. So many students who turn up for the event that night. Speech by the TYT Sabah, Vice Chancellor UMS, President of the representative council give thier speech about Tamu Gadang.

Later tradisional dance of Sabah is perform by students from School of Arts. The event become more enjoyable when spectator able to watch thier own artis sing on stage. Among the artis are Joana and Heliza. Not only that audients also get to chance to listen the famous song of Sabah.

Rain did not happened people to watch the show until it finish about 11pm at night. Late at night firework was played for about 15minutes. It was a beautiful scenery watching those firework being shoot in the air.

Convocation day 12-13 Ocktober 09

This coming Monday and Tuesday there will be convocation held at the Chancellor Hall. There will be a lot of people coming to attend the 11th edition at University Malaysia Sabah. Traffic jam will be very hard to avoid during this two day events.

Sadly for the students lecture class go on as usual. Even though lectures, staff busy prepared for this convocation. They will pass the lecture class to their tutor to teach the students.

Tamu Gadang Feast at Chancelor Hall

The Tamu Gadang Feat is held from the 5 of October until 13 October 2009. During this period of time, every school have their own thing to present to the public and also to the UMS students. It is quite busy this week. We need to wait for the bus quite longer than usual. This is because to reduce the traffic jam at the main road. Many parents, students, public and also the graduates come to this event.

The Tamu Gadang feast was officially opened by the Yang Di pertua Sabah at the Dewan Chancellor at 8pm. Speech by the Yang di Pertuan Sabah, Vice Chancellor and MPP chairman. Later there will be a Sabah culture dance to show the culture of Sabah to the audience. A few song were sing by a famous singer from Sabah. Not only that one of the students also join the party together. Even thought it was raining heavily it did not disturb the students interest to see thier favourites artiste until the event end around 11pm at night.

While the big event will be on the monday morning where the convocation will be going on. For this few days there will be a rehearsal for the graduates for them before the big event held. Sad for the students there will be no holiday for them because lecture class will go on as usual.

After the event end many students starts to went back to thier hostel. Luckily there was bas service as usual but not many like the other day to reduce traffice jam. The bus was compact like sardine. I was tired and sleep early with my laptop on until the next morning.

There was a lot of students, lecturers, staffs and also VIP who come to the Vice Chancellor open house at No 11, Lorong Permai Valley, Batu 3/1/2 Jalan Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It was quite late that i went there but there is still plenty of food available to eat. Even thought it takes about 15minutes from the university main campus to Vice Chancellor house.

There will be a opening house by UMS VC on the 5 Oct 2009. All students, staff, lecturer are invited to come between 2-5pm. Bas will transport students who wish to go to the open house. The bus will pick up at each Kg, Kingfisher, Indah Permai and at Dewan Kuliah Perdana. The time of pick up at 1.30, 2.30 and 3.30 in the afternoon.

This happened on friday on the 2nd Oct 09. It was a coincident that i wanted to go to Indah Permai to take back my broadband. Then suddenly i ask where is Nisa is. Later they had business at thier school. Then i went first. Later Nisa also reach Indah Permai. Not later Azian or Yen pass me the broadband that i borrow to her at Indah Permai. At my friend i ask Nisa to go out for dinner and they wanted to eat at KFC. Quite a big fuss when two sister whom i called them. They just like sibling. Well we went out for dinner at KFC near Taman Indah Permai. As their hostel is near by they wanted to have to eat there. Later the two of them walk around nearby shop.

Exam and final assignment

Finally exam have just coming around the corner. Just another one more month before the final exam starts on the 3 of November and ends at 19 of November 2009. There also report assignment that need to hand in also within the this few week. All almost in the same week. Imagine microeconomics, marketing, business mathematics, hubungan etnik, kemahiran berunding, management. Ah so many need to do.Can't wait to finish the exam fever and go back out of Sabah.

Hari Raya Holiday

From Kota Kinabalu International Airport to KLIA

What a day at the AirAsia terminal at Kota Kinabalu. Traffic were heavy on Saturday afternoon. Everyone in the University have gone back home. But we manage to arrived in time just before my flight starts at 3.45pm in the afternoon. I just arrived at the airport and look at the counter to Kuala Lumpur already in a long queue to take the boarding ticket. By the time There are so many people going back holiday. Imagine the queue that everyone need to wait at the waiting area before board the plane back to Kuala Lumpur.

At last the flight to Kuala Lumpur is early that predicated. My flight arrived around 6pm in the evening that 6.15 the initial time.

For the past week me and my friend went to Taman Indah Permai near Uitm. Quite a lot of choice you can choose at the bazar ramadhan. Majority of the students went there to have their food bought there.

As you can see that the picture above show the residential house for student living outside the university hostel. It just like a normal house that we stay just that the house can accommodate about 7 people in one house. One room can only fit 2 people only.

On sunday 13of Sept we have a research at Penampang. We have a group of 12members. The ethnic that we need to do research is Kadazandusun Penampang. We rented a van to went to that place. It takes about half an hour journey to the place that we need to do our research. Later we manage to see a marriage for Kadazandusun Penampang.

First time at Taman Indah Permai

This is the first time i went to KKIP to look around the hostel outside of UMS campus. It look quite far from the University around 8km. The boys house in on lower ground while the girls is at the top on the hillslope. It takes about 10minutes if no traffic jam. If there is traffic jam it will take about 15minutes or more. The bus quite a bit pack with students. As you can say that not many bus for KKIP.

There will be an event held at Kg AB Main hall to Muslim and non-muslim students to break fast together. VIP will also be coming to heat up the event. The event will be starts at 5pm and end at 9pm at night.

A big suprise for presentation

What is the most interesting and surprise that group that never do their presentation will be presenting in front of everyone in the lecture hall. Just imagine about 300 students will be there looking and hear our presentation. But first of all we need to remain relax when present because the time limit is 5 minutes only. Wow what a good experience. The last time was back in Polytechnic Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin for our final year project. What a big project back then.

After we finally finish our final semester project we will be presenting in front of everyone in the banquet hall at Pauh Inn. But the banquet only can accommodate about 300 students only. Sadly the second main hall cannot be used to present our final semester project. But at least we have the experience once before. All the hospitality lecturer, hospitality students, Polytechnic director and also our head department also attend the event.

Not many that turn up for the event that starts at 6pm. About 3000 students attend the event. Mostly from Kg AB and CD. While from Kg E not much of them who come by. If students who come from Indah Permai and KingFisher only limited for 200 from each Kg.

The dish served by the caterer can be consider not bad also just that the vegetable is not well cook. It is a little bit raw. Hope that this Friday on the 4of August there will be another buka puasa event at the UMS mosque at 4pm. Among the VIP is the Yang Di Pertua Sabah will be attending the event plus vice chancellor, lecturer, university staff and not to forget students staying in the campus and outside UMS. Can't wait to go again to taste the dish they served.

Group assigmnent and presentation

It is not an easy job especially with group assignment. The leader chosen by their member need to committed when the leader ask to do. Sometimes it is difficult to handle big no of group member. There 10people or 12 people. Delegating the task to each of the group member need to be carefully accordingly to their expertise.

What make matter worse is to meet the group member. So the easiest way to meet them is during tutorial class to discuss. The discussion need to be in a few minutes rather too long. Information that need to tell them need to be precise and short.

Presentation also need to practice before it is done in a group. Practice prevent any mistaken made by the group. Well even do it reduce the mistake rather than making a lot of mistake during presentation.

Habit of students doing last minute thing

Students loves to do last minute thing to finish their assignment given by their tutor. The time frame given by the lecturer or tutor quite long at least 2-3months before submit the final report to them.

It is a normal thing that students do things. It not a good practice to do so in the future. Once a while it does not matter. Later it will become a habit of doing thing late.

Exam fever for this week from 25-29 August 09

Everyone is busy studying their final preparation for their subject.
You can just imagine that the exam only in objectives rather essay question together.
Well to many students to mark the question paper. The no of student in School of Business and Economics around 600 plus.

It hard for the lecturer to mark all their paper. That why we need to do well in our group and individual assignment given by the tutor and also attend class to make up the mark.

UMS STUDENTS

One thing that i can observe that students queue to board the UMS Bas. They just want to hurry to board the bus. They don't care about other people, someone will get hurt. In the western country the people queue to board the bus.

One more thing is the way students dress. It is quite obvious that they wear not appropriate just like going to the shopping complex or have happy hour together with their friend. At least they wear proper attire at the correct place. I just don't understand. Even thought if they want to follow the trend please wear decency.

Semester break

Can't wait for the semester break this coming Friday. It seems quite long to wait for the semester break. What coming next is the mid term exam after semester break. Even though it is a semester break students need to study the chapter that have been thought by the lecturers. Notes and lecture during class time need to be listen carefully because it may come out in the exam.

Rumour about disease of H1N1

Since the outbreak of this disease so many students love to talk about it. It just like playing with fire. It spread like fire the news about H1N1. There also some lecture class also been cancel by the lecture. Everyone like just feel not safe. It become more worse when some people told that they are death among students in the University. Every where you go you can see people wearing the mask for protection.

This virus is happened because we human being is not carefull about our cleaness. Well there weather here also become worse not only the virus become more bad. Haze start to come to Malaysia.

Well as students can see that in the UMS there are hostel namely Kolej AB, Kolej CD, Kolej E, Kolej Indah Permai and Kolej Kingfisher. Kolej AB,CD and E is located in the UMS campus. While the other two Kolej IP and Kingfisher is located outside of the campus of UMS.

For the hostel inside the UMS, several facilities provided such as the main hall, cafeteria and cyber cafe for the student convenient. Most of the time the students use these facilities quite often either to surf internet, printing, games or dine.

There was a PC Fair at the Chancellor Hall on the 27-29July 2009. The event was held to sell computer hardware and software to the UMS students. There was also a video game competitions to participate. The game was Dota.

This is the facility at the library at University Malaysia Sabah. The ground floor is the Megalab, counter for asking any question and non science reference books. While the second floor houses the science reference books and newspaper, journal and also article.

This facilities operate from 8am until 10.30 in the weekdays. While the weekend it open from 8am until 6pm only. On Sunday the library close to public. The process of borrowing a book require a little bit of knowledge on how to borrow book using a machine to make student life easier.

As normal the meeting starts at 8am in the morning on the 24July 09 at the hotel lab at School of Business and Economics. But the occasion only starts at 9am or 9.30am. The occasion starts with a speech by the head coordinator Madam Izyanti and several lecturer like Sir Yuzainy and Mr Kamisan.

Later the MC introduce the committee member of Hotel Management club to the new student. Such a large number of student taking hotel management. About 70students. Only 10 are male students while the rest is female student. There are also international student from
China.

Dewan Kuliah Utama

Quite different from Polytechnic Perlis or now call Polytechnic Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (PTSS )
Big classroom and big hall for lecture while tutorial there have smaller class at each School in the University.

Imagine the hall can accommodate at least 300 to 500 student in one time. There are some people sleeping at the back of the lecture hall. The air condition sometimes make the students sleep in the hall.

While for the tutorial class it can only accommodate about 30 to 40 students only. It is quite small the room for tutorial class rather than the lecture hall.

System use in the university

Quite a tough thing especially when now days everyone need to know knowledge about using the computer and the internet to able to search their research and also register student registration subject for their school syllabus or university subject.

Initially it is quite tough because too many people were using the system and it hang sometimes until several attempt are made. Most of the learning material for the subject is post online using the Learning Management System or call (LMS) use by the lecturer to post their notes, notice etc.

Student need to check all the time to make sure that they receive their notes or notice earlier to prevent problem in the future.

Quite tough for student who not good at arrange their timetable. But you can said that many people have class from morning until night. Only one thing is that the food during night time only sell bread or snack only. What a waste for the student need to go to another cafe at the library to take their dinner.

Imagine the admin building on the hill top. It takes about 220steps of stairs to reach to the top. The admin building is consider the highest building on the hill slope. The admin building is build into a two tower where u can see it just like the Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur. The admin building is facing the Mount Kinabalu as u can see from the bridge tower.

A week after orientation at ums

Nothing less than the usual orientation for new student intake for jul session 2009. Most of the activities involved are briefing about the university, university rules, hostel rules, school , subject required to take and also curriculum.

Not only that briefing for library also had on the list. Most of the time new student are required to take their place at the Chancelor Hall from morning until midnight. During the morning session student are required to walk from their hostel to the Chancelor Hall. While on the night time they have the oppournity to ride on the UMS bas back to thier hostel or walk back. There are 24 bus total.

But we need to wait for the next bus to fetch us to the hostel. Imagine the bust full with student until they need to stand. For the last day we had some interesting show to watch by the 1th sem student from School of Arts. They are performing a show and dance showing the sabahan culture and language to new student coming from Peninsular Malaysia.

Life in the university

Many student were shock after they just finish their study in sh coll when they take their STPM.
Nothing more, nothing less to say about student who just study in school to pass their exam and make their grade only. Today challenge is quite tough for student who want to excel well to get their scroll. It is not very easy at the beginning.

Each of the student must be able to make out of it while in the university to make it clear nothing is easy to study in the university rather in school. The second part is english language is widely used while in the university and also for research study either graduate are taking their diploma, degree, master or phd. A lot of research need to be done.

Work smart, work hard, divide time properly, group study, ask the lecturer etc to further improve your knowledge in this challenging time after they graduate from university.

LIfe after graduate from PTSS

After 3years studying at Polytechnic Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, each of my classmates diploma in hotel and catering management jan 09 finish their study. Everyone of us counting the last day at PTSS because there are too many strict rules that sometimes doesn't make sense. Well all of us were laughing and shouting during our last day of exam. Hura Hura Hura and some say merdeka dari PTSS. Much have happened during our 3years studying at PTSS in the department of hospitality. Starting from the first semester until the last semester. Much changes after industrial training.

The changes of each of us starts after coming back from industrial training. Thier behavoir and the dress they wore very much different from before. More style and glamor. Suitable with the last department dinner on the 29 of April 2009 at the Main Hall of PTSS with the theme celebrity night. Not much fun for the last semester dinner. But one thing we took a lot of picture. Nobody want to miss to take picture with our friends before we say goodbye.

Well after exam fininsh some find job in the hotel, fast food service, bank etc. Other continue study to further thier knowledge in the hotel field.

Holiday in Penang

For the past 2 weeks i am in penang for a holiday after exam finally over and study at PTSS finally over for 3years at there in Perlis. On the 19 jun 2009 i quite worry about my result to university application. My mom also quite worry either get or not. If fail to enter U then i need to got to work in the hotel or somewhere else. Well i am still thinking whether to continue study again. Quite tough to study in the University only the strong will survive to graduate with a degree in hotel management at University Malaysia Sabah. Quite far from home and also my friend.

Need to think careful before decide to enter University. Quite challenge need to study and read a lot and finally the final semester the year that scared student when they need to write their thesis and also their assignment and final exam. Well nothing is easy.

A moment of truth the exam result

Wah on the 17 of june 2009 is a day where exam result coming out from the PTSS website.
Worry, sad etc about the result. Finally when the result finally coming out on the page i was quite surprise for result only eng and law subject did badly rather than other subject like cost and control, maintenance, project and human resource. Well many of our class dhk 6 jun 09 many get good result and also get akj. Still the same people who manage to get akj ( anugerah ketua jabatan ). The famous one are yun, fieza, amira and nasimah. Well they are just extraordinary people who just want to be the best in the class. Will be miss all of them dhk 6 jan 06 until jun 09.

Many will be working or continue to study in university.
Wish all the best in their future.
The are time to say goodbye after study together for 3years.
I am sure all them sure miss to wait for convocation day this coming.

Relax at home

For the past few week after finish final exam on the 28 of Mei 2009 i just thinking about what to write in my blog so i will be in Penang for at least 2 week before continue to write more about project work for my class have done for my junior to look on and as a remembrance of our exciting project that we have done for the past 6 month from jan 09 until mei 09.

I will miss all my classmate even thought there is tough time during executing our project while doing our assigment, quiz, test and other important thing. Many of our classmate do complain about the project they had done. In the end, everything went well as planned and manage to make the project done finally and official launch it.
